Coins Through the Ages -Rarity, History, and Value in Every Piece

Duke’s specialist Coins Department has grown exponentially in recent years, reflecting both collector enthusiasm and the enduring strength of the market for precious metals.

With two curated specialist coin sales annually, the department regularly handles material ranging from early medieval issues through to modern proof sets and commemoratives.

A notable success was The Poorton Coin Hoard, discovered by a local couple during a kitchen renovation. The standalone sale achieved a 100% sold rate, more than doubling its pre-sale estimate. Within which A Charles I gold Unite crown coin, circa 1635-1636, sold for £6,250*.

Coins also feature in our biannual Jewellery, Watches, Silver & Currency sales, and are occasionally included in our Avenue Collectors’ Auctions.

With demand for coins and precious metals at a high, now is the perfect time to sell. To find out about our next sale, please visit the Upcoming Auctions page.
